Gin & Tonics are the way to go!
Gin and Tonics have become the hot new go to drink replacing many cosmos, margaritas, and daiquiris. Sweeping across the States and Europe likewise, this trendy drink has become a centerfold for many bars who sell this as their prized beverage. Gin Tonics have become so popular, they even merit their own courses that teach students how to be their own bartender and mix the perfect cocktail concoction with various adornments and flavors. The drink seems simple, Gin and some Schweppes tonic right? Well there is actually more to it than meets the eye.
The bartenders at Flaherty’s Irish Bar Barcelona have the know-how and ingredients to make and exquisite artisan Gin Tonic and have given me a few tips. First, you always want to focus on the good alcohol. A good gin with proof over 90 will help slice through the ice and tonic, (and of course it’s better for your next day hangover). You want to make sure you have plenty of ice in your high ball class, that your garnishes are cut fresh for a richer flavor, and that your tonic is cold. Then, depending on the type of Gin, for 25ml of gin you can need anywhere from 40-70 ml of tonic then garnished with whatever goes best with the botanicals of the particular gin.
So if you haven’t jumped on the Gin Tonic boat yet, pop into Flaherty’s Irish Bar Barcelona and give it a whirl and see what all the hype (for good reason) is all about!
