Irish Cider

Cider has a long and fascinating history in Ireland and is an essential part of it’s culture. In the 18th century cider was produced in large quantities on farms, cider production was so wide-spread that part of a workers wage could be paid in cider, up to 3-4 pints a day!
Any apples can be used in cider marking, although there are particular varieties grown for cider making, these are known as cider apples. The flavour of cider varies from cider to cider; they can range from dry to sweet, cloudy to completely clear and from light yellow to orange or brown.
Magners Irish Cider and Bulmers Irish Cider are the most well-known Irish cider brands, but what you may not know is that they are the produced by the same company. Bulmers Irish Cider is the brand name it receives in the Republic of Ireland and outside the Republic of Ireland it’s named Magners Irish Cider. This is due to the fact that Bulmers Ltd does not own the trade mark for Bulmers outside the Republic of Ireland, the company H. P. Bulmer retains the right to market their original English Bulmers worldwide.
Magners has a range of delicious ciders, Magners pear, Magners original (so original it’s the same recipe from 1935!), Magners berry (strawberries, blackcurrants and raspberries blended with pear cider), Magners Golden Draught and Magners light. All Magners’ ciders should be served with plenty of ice except Magners Golden Draught.
